Why Your Business Needs to be on Instagram

If you’re in ecommerce, you’re no stranger to social media. Whether you’re actively promoting your brand or just getting started with social media marketing (SMM), it almost definitely plays a part in your marketing strategy.

Even if you’re currently using it, you may not be taking advantage of all it has to offer. And if your business isn’t on Instagram, stay tuned. You’re going to learn why over 25 million businesses use it to promote their goods and services. A business account is completely free and just might be the most effective marketing tool.

Why is Instagram ideal for ecommerce?

80% of Instagram users follow at least one business and because it relies on visuals, it’s ideal for selling online. It’s the favorite platform of social media influencers and with shoppable posts, users can shop right from their timeline. Not to mention the fact that you can easily reach your target audience when you use the right hashtags (and yes, you have to use hashtags to get your business out there!)

Even if you want to pay to promote your brand on Instagram, it’s super simple and inexpensive. As little as $10 will allow you to run a very targeted ad on the platform, which is hard to beat.

Sounds great, right? That’s only the beginning.

Perhaps the most persuasive reason to promote on Instagram is the fact that it has the highest levels of engagement of any social media platform. While engagements is important on any platform, it’s everything on Instagram.

The Instagram algorithm is based on engagement: the more likes and comments your content has, the higher up it’ll be in your followers’ feeds and the more likely it is to show up on the Explore page. Essentially, the more people see your content and interact with it, the more other people will see it and engage with it.

Influencers are another great reason to promote on IG. But if you think “influencer” means Kardashian or other reality TV star, think again. Influencers can be anyone with a large following, some credibility, and authenticity. They’re like that friend you always go to when you want to know what the latest, coolest gadget is. It’s likely that your area and industry have influencers with a lot of sway that would be a good fit for your business and with a little legwork, you can find them for free.

Now let’s talk about the feature that was made just for online merchants: shoppable posts. Since Instagram doesn’t allow clickable links in captions, shoppable posts are a game changer. To make your Instagram shoppable, just connect your store to your account, tag your products in your posts, and your followers can purchase right there in the app.

Users can even shop your feed from your profile where they can see all your shoppable posts in one place. Your customers get exactly what they want and you’re able to move them through your sales funnel at lightning speed. That’s a win-win!

Incorporating Instagram into your Shopify Store

We’ve talked about the benefits of promoting your brand on Instagram, but it’s also a good idea to incorporate Instagram into your Shopify store. There are a lot of plugins in the Shopify app store that can help you incorporate Instagram into your marketing strategy. Most of these fall into two categories: those that put your Insta feed on your site and shoppable Instagram galleries. The first type serves to promote your IG account and lead people on your site to Instagram where they can follow you and keep up to date with your store.

Shoppable Instagram galleries allow users to shop from your Instagram feed on your site. This is great for people that don’t want to shop on Instagram but still want to purchase something they saw you post. It’s also a nice, visual way to shop and shows your customers what your products look like in real life.
